Trivia[]

  • Camila's elevated position among the slaves prior to the fall of The House of Batiatus may indicate that she was a Vilica (feminim form of Vilicus), a superintending slave over the villa. In her appearences in Blood and Sand and Gods of the Arena, she was often seen with a stylus and wax-tablets in hand when writing down instructions from her masters. A Vilicus or Vilica may be entrusted with the administrative responsibilities of the household or villa, while a body-slave would have had nearly as much authority, due to the intimate relationship they have with their dominus.
  • The name Camilla appears in Roman myth as the daughter of King Metabus of the Volsci (an Italian tribe of Umbro-Oscan origin). In Virgil's Aeneid, she was a warrior and huntress, who fought against the Trojan hero Aeneas.
