Hasdrubal was a gladiator of an unknown ludus. Though mentioned briefly in Spartacus: Blood and Sand, he appears exclusively in Spartacus: Gods of the Arena.
Character Outline[]
Fighting early in the day, he was presumably a gladiator of lower skill or ranking, but one who was adept at fighting in two-man teams. Trained in the style of Secutor, his weapon of choice was the securis (axe). Typical of the Secutor, Hasdrubal wore a loincloth with a wide belt and a protective (but visually impairing) full helmet. On his right arm he wore a manica and on both legs, ocrea greaves.
Gods of the Arena[]
Ashur falls...
zHasdrubal os paired alongside Kleitos for a two-on-two bout against the Syrians Ashur and Dagan, of the House of Batiatus.
While Dagan fought Kleitos, Hasdrubal battled and defeated Ashur, knocking him to the ground. He was about to finish him off when Dagan (having killed Kleitos), thrusts his sword through his torso. Mortally wounded, Hasdrubal slumped to the ground, where he received the coup de grâce from Ashur (who assumed credit for the victory). Hasdrubal’s head, still within his helmet, was cleaved in two by his very own axe to the roar of the crowd.
Ashur then addresses the crowd saying that the fate of Hasdrubal will be the same fate for anyone who dares to face him.
Blood and Sand[]
When Ashur attempts to rejoin the Brotherhood as a gladiator, Batiatus is not in favor of the decision. Ashur tries to use his 'victory' over Hasdrubal to convince Batiatus of his skill in the arena, proclaiming "How the crowd roared when I clove his head in two". Batiatus, however, dismisses this feat as "A minor victory, long forgotten" and proclaims Ashur's days in the arena to be over.

- Hasdrubal's name is likely taken from two Carthaginian Generals of the Barcid Dynasty. Hasdrubal the Fair and Hasdrubal Barca, brother of Mago Barca and Hannibal Barca, and son of Hamilcar Barca.
