Lysimachus was a gladiator who served Vettius, and subsequently Solonius after he took over his ludus. Though mentioned in Spartacus: Blood and Sand he appears exclusively in Spartacus: Gods of the Arena.

Character Outline[]

Utilizing the style of Murmillo, Lysimachus' equipment consisted of the standard gladius sword and scutum shield, along with the accompanying manica on his right arm and ocrea leg greaves.

Gods of the Arena[]

Thraex vs Murmillo 1

Lysimachus versus Ashur.

Lysimachus is one of the gladiators fighting in the afternoon matches of the opening of the new arena.

His opponent in the match is Ashur, fighting in the Thraex style.

Ashur, in a rare display of fighting ability, hammers his way aggressively past Lysimachus' defenses and slashes the man's throat with his sica, thus ending both his life and his short time as a gladiator under Solonius' ownership.

Watching the match, Solonius - for his part - does not seem pleased.

Blood and Sand[]

When Ashur attempts to rejoin the Brotherhood as a gladiator, Batiatus is not in fa vour of the decision. Ashur lists the defeat of Lysimachus among his triumphs in the arena, alongside the deaths of Hasdrubal and Kleitos. However, Batiatus dismisses all these 'victories' without regard, and proclaims Ashur's days in the arena to be over.

Trivia[]

  • When Lysimachus is killed, Ashur is not wearing a helmet... meaning either he entered battle without one or - more likely - Lysimachus managed to knock it off during an earlier (unseen) part of their fight. They also appear to have swapped shields!
