Character OutlineEdit

Marcellus is a Slave Trader known predominantly for his sales of women. He also offers many other services of an unsavoury nature. He has a skin disease due to his less-than-hygienic occupation.

Blood and SandEdit

Marcellus made his first appearance when Barca & Ashur were searching for the man who had hired assassins to kill Batiatus in The Pit. After some persuasion, Marcellus led Barca & Ashur to Remus, who in turn led them to Ovidius.

Marcellus later provides the whores, paid for by Spartacus, for the gladiators to celebrate Spartacus' victory over Theokoles. Unbeknownst to anyone, Ashur also uses this oppurtunity to have Marcellus hire a messenger to tell Batiatus that Ovidius' son still lived leading to the death of Barca. Marcellus later silenced the messenger so only he and Ashur know of the deception. As Ashur pays Marcellus for the deed, he whispers to Marcellus that should he ever speak of it again, he will have him killed.

Ashur bought poison from Marcellus that slowed Crixus during his final match with Spartacus on the day the gladiators overran the ludus.

VengeanceEdit

Close to the beginning of Spartacus' uprising against Rome, Crixus searches out Marcellus for information on the whereabouts of Naevia. His interrogation leads Crixus to finding Trebius who has further knowledge on her. Crixus kills Marcellus after he is through with him. This altercation is not shown in the series but is described through a conversation between Spartacus and Crixus.

TriviaEdit

  • Matt Gillanders, the actor who plays Marcellus is 180cm tall.
  • The Latin term for slave trader is Mercatoriam Mancipium.

QuotesEdit

Marcellus: (speaking of Messenger) Not unless Hades speaks of it from the underworld. The messenger has been put to grass.

Crixus: "I was not seen, except by Marcellus. And he will never speak of it."

Marcellus: (to Ashur) "More threats is it?"
