If you think the first two seasons of Spartacus have been intensely dramatic affairs, then just wait for the third. According to producers, there will be more blood and more shock, and that's not surprising considering that the list of new characters includes both Julius Caesar and Marcus Lucinius Crassus. Crassus provides political and financial support to Caesar, and together these Roman power players must use their cunning, influence, and blood-thirst to crush Spartacus's slave revolt. Hopefully the cast can do the legend justice.
Starz has announced that the young Julius Caesar will be played by Australian actor Todd Lasance, who is most known for starring in the television series Crownies. Marcus Crassus will be played by Simon Merrells, a British television actor most known for his roles on The Wolfman and Family Affairs. Both actors look decently enough like young Caesar and young Crassus, but it's to be seen whether they will grow into villains we love to hate or hate to love.
